A timeless extension to a weatherboard cottage that reaches for the sky.
Location: Brunswick
Typology: Renovation
Design team: Erica Slocombe, Warwick Mihaly, Amiee Groundwater
Oculus House is a warm and timeless extension to a weatherboard cottage. Our clients asked us to create a nurturing hub of interaction for their small family, with additional spaces to retreat and engage with hobbies. Through carefully considered, purposeful gestures we’ve crafted a simple but finely detailed home with a deep connection to light, views and garden spaces.
The ceiling of the living room reaches up towards a central sky window, flooding the space with natural light and dynamic views of the sky, passing clouds and changing weather. Walls open through to the generous back garden and intimate courtyard facilitating natural cross ventilation and establishing the feeling of being nestled in nature. A rich and robust material palette of white brick, concrete flooring and timber ceilings help achieve thermal comfort and an inviting space to unwind as a family.
